The Barking Birch Pet Lodge is a home away from home for pets. We pride ourselves in providing top-notch housing and boarding for pets while their families are away. A Front Desk Attendant organizes customer communication, grooming service organization, and owner services.

A Front Desk Attendant works to organize and direct customer services and front-end staff. The position is one that upholds the high expectations we have for guests, their owners, and our staff.

Responsibilites

Front-end services are vital to the smooth function of The Barking Birch. A Front Desk Attendant is tasked with organizing the tasks and quality services of our guests and their owners. This position manages the smooth function of the front of house and customer relationships at the Barking Birch Bet Lodge.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Morning Cleaning and setup tasks, such as:
    • Check voicemails and take note of new grooming/daycare messages
    • Check emails for grooming/daycare/lodging appointments
    • Review Gingr requests: Approve new appointments through Gingr and note any follow-up needed
    • Setting up/opening the till (cash register)
    • Sweep/mop as necessary
  • Evening cleaning and closing tasks, such as:
    • Sweep and mop front office
    • Close cash register
    • Shut down computer
  • Shovel snow spread salt throughout the day (during the winter)
  • Print grooming notes
  • T-shirt/apparel inventory
  • Turn on lights as needed
  • Fill front desk treats (for dogs and humans)
  • Answer phone calls and return calls from guests
  • Greet incoming guests and verify reservations
  • Collect payment from outgoing guests
  • Maintain confidentiality of all personal client information
  • Organize the record keeping and reporting on the status, activities, health & behavior of dogs
  • Verify all vaccination records are current and entered electronically
  • Organize client discounts and refunds as necessary – with guidance for Barking Birch Leadership Team

Skills Required

As the Barking Birch Front Desk Attendant, you need a passion for dogs as well as people. Patience is required both for the animals and to help resolve and provide direction for employees. Clear and direct communication (written as well as verbal) is a must for this positing.

Work Environment

Directing the activities and regular duties of the Barking Birch staff is a very active job. It involves standing, walking, bending, stooping, and cleaning. All animals at barking Birch are required to be up to date with their vaccinations.

First-time visitors are required to go through a behavior assessment to ensure the safety of canine and human pack members. Even so, working around animals can be unpredictable. We require our human pack members to be alert and undistracted at all times.

Team Requirements

Throughout the day, we work in groups and individually with team members and animals. The members of our pack must value integrity, responsibility, and patience. This is true for entry-level staff as well as leadership team members.

It is also important that we practice collaborative communication with our fellow team members and pet owners. Our Front Desk Attendant peers, managers, customers, and Barking Birch Leadership.
